Theatre masks

smooth, unblemished,unbroken
heated and cooled,no token
or hint to show the change
of painters thoughts rearranged.

yet the mask breaks
and cracks when paint is applied
the more is seen
the more you try to hide

add the purples, blues and greens
and all the more go in-between,
as the brushstroke grows  defined
more visible the cracks and lines.
up close you cannot hope
to hide from the microscope
 the defects that lie in the masks
but from distance? Safe AT LAST!
those who do not want or wish to see
or are blind to all bar their "me",
think the purple just the same
as its earlier,brighter shade.

but on again the mask is put
before to take another look,
actors posture alters here
a new persona pulls you near

but do not think it does not lack
fractures , breaks,blemish or cracks
to see the truth,now there's the task,
of the face behind, that theater mask.
